The Snark Club,

This Ancient Club was
Evolved & Imperceptibly Founded during the months of April & May, in
the year 1934, at the University of Cambridge, by certain Grave Students while
at their lessons in Natural History: in the rare intervals between their
conning of Strange Creepy Creatures.
The Cambridge Group has
been meeting once a year ever since 1934 for dinner and a reading of the Agony.
It has, at any one time, exactly ten members, each corresponding to a member of
Carroll's Snark-hunting crew. This rule can of course be adjusted in accordance
with rule 8 - a perfect and absolute blank, allowing any modification to any
rule, given the Bellman's approval.
The Club Rules
1. That the Club be called the 'Snark
Club'.
2. That the object of the Club be the
glorification of the Snark and its creator
3. That an Annual Dinner shall be
held.
4. That at each Annual Dinner the
'Agony' be read complete
5. That the fine for non-attendance at
the Dinner be a cheque drawn to bearer for seven pounds ten, which shall be
crossed.
6. That any member of the Crew who
shall be separated from the scene of the Dinner by not less than one thousand
diminsihed by eight nautical miles, be exempt from the fine mentioned in Rule
5.
7. That members be posted in the Agony
Column of The Times newspaper after non-attendance at the Dinner exceeding two
consecutive years.
8.
9. That members be replaced as the
softly and suddenly vanish away.
10. That the Bellman be responsible for
the upkeep of the bell, and that it be his peculiar privilege to tingle same.
That Strange Creepy Creatures may be admitted as additional members of the Crew from time to time, provided the total number available for Snark service at any one time shall not exceed ten.
